Happy New Year!
We made it to 2014! Wow! I hope you all had a wonderful NYE and I hope you take this little picture to heart tomorrow (today) starts an amazing journey for the next 365 days. Let's make those days count. Let's try something new, get a job, fall in love, travel, learn a new language, break out of your comfort zone....successfully maintain a blog (erhm). I hope 2014 is everything you wish it to be. As I said on twitter last night, " The year that you want, a year that you deserve and a year that you need are all different things, but never the less, I wish them all to you", and nothing can be more true. Every single one of you deserves an amazing year.
The future is a scary place, especially for a college junior (how did I get so old?). Where will I be in two years? Did I really do the right thing picking a major I was passionate about but not a total money maker? Why does everyone keep asking me what I want to do? What do I want to do??
These questions are stressing me out just typing them, so when I finally get some time to myself during winter break, I truly begin to freak out. I know I can't plan everything, and I know what I don't want to do--but what do I do when I have no idea where to go next?
My mom has been offering me some really great advice since I began to (in using her words) "fret" over these sort of things, saying "You don't need to know". My reaction 98% of the time is "WHAT DO YOU MEAN? I needed to know yesterday what I wanted to do with my life." But tonight I'm really trying to take them to heart, even if it is a little difficult.
It's okay not to know.
It's okay to make mistakes
It's okay to dislike a job
It's okay to change careers, majors, favorite movies and brands of mascara.
It is okay.
We just have to remember the only thing that isn't okay
is staying somewhere, doing something
that doesn't make you happy
Hey there pals,
Sorry I've been gone for over a month but school was crazy, family was crazy, life was crazy, but I'm back now. I will be brainstorming what to do in the future when it comes to the times when things get crazy. Who know what will happen but I'm so excited to spend the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014 here on Pearls and Political Science!
Here's some things that have grabbed my attention recently. Links, recipes, instas, that I love all in one place.
1. The Study Buddy mix by mor-iarty on 8tracks.
Forget my iTunes, my Spotify, this playlist is my jam.
I've been rediscovering my faith recently, a large part thanks to She Reads Truth, a online devotional group that is Pinterest pretty (aesthetics matter let's not get it twisted), while delivering a great message. Nothing too preachy, and all very low key-- 100% my style.
Camp Brand Goods is a boutique clothing outfitter but while I haven't gotten anything from the shop yet, I'm straight up obsessed with their instagram. How beautiful are these pictures?
I just love good little things that help make my day a little more fun or beautiful. What's been seeking y'alls attention recently?
So in this day and age, you can't just know English. You can't. No one wants to hire someone who can speak just one language, especially in politics. And I'll be frank, languages aren't my friend,
English, totally fine. Got that one down.
Spanish? 10 years later still struggling a little
French: 1 semester down and I'm just like ehhh no...
So what's a girl to do?
Duolingo is a great website/app that helps you learn languages on your own time in a fun, easy way for free. Totally 100% free. Not pay later, free trial, but free.
Right now the languages are limited, but regardless, the site is great because I can brush up on my Spanish while also trying out German.
Go ahead, try it out if you are trying to learn a new language or improve your current skills.
What've you got to lose?
It's that time of the semester. Things are getting stressful and busy. As the semester winds down it just seems like everything is going at warp speed, and I can't be happier about it.
Yup. you heard that right. I'm loving the busy, the stress. I relish in the fact I have to go, go, go all day and get to crash into bed. Sure being tired is awful, but when I'm this busy and this stressed, it makes the times when I don't have much to do (hello after Wednesday night) all the more sweeter.
So, I'm off to work on a couple of speeches and nurse a new cold that I've gotten in the past 24 hours #cool
Embrace the stress,
I've been going through a major puppy phase. I need a pooch in the worst way. As my friends move off campus, they are starting to get puppies and while I know how much care they require and the time they take up, I can't hep but want one! Because I'm living on campus right now, a dog isn't in my future but oh how I wish it was. These cuties are just adorable and I'm low key in love with all of them!
This is a crazy busy week for me. From papers, tests and everything else, there is just a ton going on. I need to study with music. November is a month of darker times, wilder weather and stress as the semester winds down. Here is a little gift from me to y'all so we can get through the month!
Let me know what you think! Any songs you just have to listen to when studying? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Happy Sunday! I hope everyone had a great Halloweekend! I know I did. As I was getting ready for the week, I realized that I haven't shared what's in my backpack everyday.
As I get older on campus, I realize what are MUST haves during classes and what are "take'm or leave'ms" and this is what I've narrowed down for y'all. I carry a North Face Backpack and it is AMAZING. I've had it for three years and I have had 0 problems, which is great because they are a little expensive but hey, you get what you pay for.
Now, inside my backpack always have some essentials
1. My Macbook Pro in it's CWonder laptop sleeve. They don't sell the sleeve anymore (sorry!) but I just love how colorful and unique it is! Hopefully they have some more back in stock next season!
2. My Erin Condren planner. I talk all about the planner in this post, but I really can't say enough about how amazing and life changing the planner is. Mine is about to run out, so when I get a new one in January, I'll be sure to leave a review for y'all
3. My folders. I love these folders. They are 5 folders bound together. I just keep the folder in my bag everyday, so I never have to worry about finding the right folder for a certain class #whatsnottolove
4 Headphones. These are life saves when running into the library between classes to get some work done or listen to music while walking to class. These are a must must must have for study sessions
5. Pens. Pencils. Highlighters. I write everything down. I can't help it! I always make sure to keep some writing utensils on hand so I can be sure that everything that needs to be written down is. Kept in my lovely Lilly Pulitzer makeup bag (versatility at its finest), I always know where everything is in my bag, and I can be sure that I have everything I need for class.
So y'all, that's what I pack for class, what are some of y'alls must haves?
